Universities

For a long time, Zanzibar did not have a University of its own. Zanzibar students have been attanding Universities which are in the other side of  Tanzania. These Universities are The University of Dar-es-Salam,Hubert Kairuki Memorial University, Muhimbili  Medical University, Sokoine University. In addition to Universities, most of the other higher learning institutes are available in mailand Tanzania in which Zanzibar students have been attanding.

Currently, there are two  Universities in Zanzibar, both are privately owned, these are;

Zanzibar University

       It offers Bacholor of Art in  Bussiness Administartion and Law. The efforts to expand the University so as to offer other disciplines such as Social Science and Engineering are on the pipeline.

Zanzibar College of Education

       This University currently offers First Degree on  Islamic Studies (Education). The efforts to exapand it to offer other disciplines of education on History, Geography  and Pure Science  (Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics) are on the way.

Post-Secondary Education

      There are a number of colleges in Zanzibar, these are;

  Karume Technical College  (KTC): 

         Offers Full Technician Certificate on   Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Locomotive Engineering and Civil Engineering.

  Institute of Swahili and Foreign Languages (ISFL)

  The Nkrummah Teacher Training College (NTTC)

      Offers Certificate level and Diploma level of  Education Training.

Secondary and High Schools

     There are a number of Secondary Schools and High Schools. Two secondary schools which include High School curriculum  as well  are Lumbumba Secondary School in Unguja and Fidel Castro Secondary School in Pemba.

      There are about 180 primary schools in Zanzibar.
