Zanzibar Team in CECAFA 2004

Ethiopia sent Zanzibar packing

Ethiopia thrashed Zanzibar 3-0 on Sunday December 19, 2004 to earn a ticket in the semi-final of the CECAFA Senior Challege cup in Addis Ababa. After loosing 2-1 to Burundi on Friday December 17, 2004 Zanzibar had no chance of finding a spot in the semis and the loss to Ethiopia is a vivid reminder that much needs to be done to make Zanzibar team a force to reckon with in the region.

Zanzibar whip their Mainland rivals

Zanzibar beat their Tanzania rivals 4-2 in the ongoing East and Central Africa soccer Challenge Cup in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Monday, December 13, 2004.

Zanzibar team under coach Hafidh Badru and Manager Masoud Ali Masoud Atay found the net after just six minutes of play. The win gives Coach Hafidh an excellent pedigree in Zanzibar soccer history. Under his reign, Zanzibar lifted CECAFA Senior Challenge cup in 1995 and last year his under 19 side won youth championship.

Zanzibar's leading scorer, Abdalla Juma found the net after just six minutes of play and notched another one late in the game to bring his tally in this tournament to three. The Tanzania team (Kilimanjaro Stars) could not match the pace shown by the well disciplined Zanzibar side.

Zanzibar lost to Ruanda

Zanzibar lost 2-4 to Ruanda in the opening day of the CECAFA Senior Challenge cup in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Saturday, December 11, 2004.
